The Browser is the Macintosh™ representation of the photo albums we use in our everyday life to store our personal or professional pictures.
Use the Browser to file your images per subject (landscapes, animals ...), per usage (Publicity, Personal...) or any other convenient method. This will enable you to find them easily, to see them by a "thumbnail" (miniature representation of the image) and to open them quickly with PhotoFix™.
OPERATION :
Open the PhotoFix™ Browser by double clicking on its icon.
In the File menu, select New Catalogue.
Name the catalogue : Browser Exercises.
Click "Save".
A dialogue box appears asking you to choose the disk, the file or the image(s) you wish to catalogue.
Select an image(s) then click on : "Catalogue : (name of image or folder)
The program creates a catalogue containing the thumbnails of the images contained in the selected folder.
Notes concerning the PhotoFix™ Browser :
- The Browser only reads the images having a format supported by PhotoFix™.
- The number of images per catalogue can be limited or customised depending on the Browser version you have.
If the maximum number of images in a catalogue is reached, a second, then a third catalogue, will be automatically created by the software. They will all have the same name as the first one followed by the number of the catalogue. Example : Landscapes - Landscapes 2 - Landscapes 3 ...
- If you wish to catalogue all the images in a folder which contains itself other image folders, select the "Look for images in nested folders" option.
- After having created a catalogue, you may want to add one or many images to it. To do so, use the "Add" command from the "File" menu then select the image(s) or folder to be added.
- If you modify the data related to one or more images of a catalogue (size, date, name, image format...) you must save these modifications by using the "Update" command from the "File" menu.
VIEW :
When the catalogue "Browser Exercises" is created, the application displays its window. You may now choose the desired "View" option.
List : click on the second button in the top left corner of the window, to display the thumbnails as a list.
This mode enables you to see on the right of each image, the data and available information associated to it (text, keywords E).
Small : if you click on the third button, the thumbnail will appear in small size.
This option is practical to display a large number of thumbnails on your screen. With the "List" mode, you can see the name, the number in the catalogue and the text associated to each image.
Large : if you click on the fourth button, the thumbnails will be displayed in large size.
With this option and the "List" mode, you can see all the data and information regarding the image and associate 4 keywords and a text to it.
Keywords : keywords are currently used by professional photographers to easily find their photographs.
In addition to the traditional sorting and searching by name, date or type of an image, the PhotoFix™ Browser enables you to easily find an image by using associated keywords in the same way as professional image database managers.
To take full advantage of this capability, always try to put the same type of information in the same text field.
For example :
- 1st field : name of the photographer or publisher
- 2nd field : date of the shot
- 3rd field : potential usage (publicity, mail, ...)
- 4th field : any particular information (rights, format, ...).
SEARCH EXAMPLE
To find the 054 image : click on the magnifier.
The above dialogue box appears. Enter the number 054 in the Name text field - click "Find".
The image 054 will be displayed on the top of the list.
Double click on its thumbnail (or select Open image from the File menu), the original image will then be opened in PhotoFix.
If you are performing this operation for the first time, the Browser will ask you to indicate where PhotoFix™ is on your disk. Find and select PhotoFix™ using the displayed dialogue box.
From now on, any image may be opened directly from the Browser with PhotoFix™.
